Nekoland Cafe by paladinknight Nekoland Cafe by paladinknight
Illustration/Drawing II project on perspective. Based on the food court in West Quay, Southampton.

Initially planned on depicting a sleezy night bar with futuristic bunny girls dancing on the tables and in the air, neon lights and spilling alcohol; however I felt that someting as ambitous wouldn't have been practical for an approaching deadline. This is where lucky cats in place of sexy women comes into the scene; their sole purpose: to brighten up the picture and its mood. My brother (a composition addict :3) argues against the transparent ceiling- but I feel that it gives a sensation of freedom and moulds quite nicely with the 'lucky' theme. He is quite right about the middle section however, where there needs to be something which breaks the line of the table up. I'm happiest with how the cat in the rectangular spa turned out. He's so cute! @_@

[Thanks to my bro and roomies and for your opinions along the way~ ^^]

Wonderfully surreal. The perspective is really well-executed.

I love the food court, but I cant sit on the stools. I fall off :-s

I love it though :) It feels so fresh and clean (that makes me think of that song...haha!) but yeah, the transparent ceiling helps with that!

(you should include me, hanging on for dear life to the counter!)

absolutely gorgeous! :+favlove: its a picture which captures your eye and lets you keep noticing things each time you see it again. the composition works well...i like the extreme perspective and think it would work well printed out large on a wall. i think the transparent ceiling is a good choice, as a solid one might have hemmed in the piece too much (altho i'm going right over to your bro's page after this to see some thoughtfully composed stuff - i don't have the patience for thinking about composition any more than comes naturally at the moment o_O; )

wow i would never have recognised west quay tho! its not the same now that cinnabon has gone away :(
